Minutes from LinuxChix Wellington meetup @ Bristol

Agenda: World Domination!

Ideas for places to promote LinuxChix

  1. Vic careers day - Manjula mentioned Jessica Campbell might be someone who could help
  2. Girl guides - Brenda to organise

LinuxChix Tech Talks

Technical evenings with 2 - 3 talks ranging from extremely technical to easily accessible, given by Chix & invited guests. Mingling and tim-tams in between!

Talk ideas

  • Managing systems with cfengine (Jes)
  • Gender & gaming (Jes & Joh)
  • Licensing in a nutshell (Brenda)
  • Automatix (Making it just fucking work) (Manjula)
  • Digital photography (Jes, Brenda?)

First tech talk speakers

  • Manjula - automatix
  • Brenda - licensing
  • Jes - Cfengine
  • Provision for 'guest speakers' who are invited, which would allow us to invite male speakers if we so wanted but ensures that women's talks are given preference.

A clear moderation policy would be required as well as a code of conduct to ensure that if situations occur where we feel men are dominating the discussion that we can easily point to why this is inappropriate and take whatever action is required.

A suggestion for how to implement this from Joh - 'Blamers Bingo' (reference?)

    Venue

IBM is a possibility during business hours, after hours not so
much. Catalyst or Vic university were suggested for possible after hours
    venues.

    Social event ideas!

Watching of Pride & Prejudice on the projector at Jes' place, girls only.
(The venue is confirmed, we just need to agree on a time and arrange for more beanbags)

    LASER STRIKE :D

LinuxChix vs targets (Why have I written down 'dave2' as a target? Do we remember?)

    Other miscellaneous items

Manjula to set up an e-library for Chix to register for swapping books
